As this is the triumphant return of the Kpopmap Mood Playlist, we’re feeling a little festive – like it’s our birthday! Now who said your birthday can only happen once a year? With the right playlist, any day can feel like your special day. Now buckle up, put on your headphones and get ready for a fun celebration!
‘BIRTHDAY’ by Jeon SoMi is gritty, extremely addictive and iconic among the K-Pop community. The chorus goes “Shake it like it’s my birthday”, encouraging us to treat any ordinary day like it’s our birthday. For Somi, this track marked the beginning of his solo career. For us it’s a sign to go out and spend the day partying!
2. NCT U – ‘Make A Wish (Birthday Song)’
One of the main components of a birthday party is the cake, the candles and the wish that comes after. NCT U brings us this hyphy birthday song that makes our body dance in every direction. Even if you’re not in the club celebrating, with this music blasting through your headphones, any location can become your personal dance floor.
Speaking of cake, we had to include ‘Birthday’ by Red Velvet in this playlist. The song is done in Red Velvet’s iconic style, featuring a modern yet experimental melody that grabs you from the first second. The verses sound like you’ve stumbled into a secret festival, while the pre-chorus acts as the build-up to the event’s eventual headliner. Then, the song reaches its climax during the chorus. ‘Birthday’ lives up to its name and offers listeners a track worthy of an exciting birthday party.
4. iKON – ‘B-DAY’
This legendary iKON track is the perfect anthem for a birthday night – even if it’s not really your birthday. The track embodies this festive energy from start to finish with its pounding bass and the members’ melodic vocals. iKON’s ‘B-DAY’ feels like an exhilarating roller coaster that stretches for miles. By the end, your blood is pumping and you’re ready to stay out until morning.
5. SEVENTEEN – ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY’
We’re running at full speed with all the hype songs that scream birthday celebration. But sometimes, making things more minimalist and cozy is enough to make an ordinary day special. That’s where SEVENTEEN’s ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY’ comes in to slow down your heart rate and bring a sense of peace. The track may be short, but it’s full of emotion, recalling the great gift of being born. It’s okay to cry, even on your birthday.
