2023 is shaping up to be the most amazing year for webtoon-based K-Dramas. With over 48 productions confirmed and over 28 announced, webtoon lovers are in awe of their favorite works being adapted into live-action K-Dramas. The latest addition to this lineup is the webtoon thriller “Pyramid Game” by Dalgonyak. At the time of writing, WJSN’s BoNa has been offered the lead role of Seong SuJi.
For those who don’t know, “Pyramid Game” is a psychological thriller set in a high school where a popularity vote decides your fate. Seong SuJi is a new transfer student who starts at the very bottom, and that rank proves brutal when she becomes subject to legal school violence.
T/W: violence, self-mutilation.

SuJi has a history of transferring schools. So when she transfers from Gangwon Province to “Love High” in Seoul, she’s kind of nervous and at ease. She prides herself on her ability to judge others, determine a class’s power dynamics, and figure out who she should be friends with. However, things don’t seem to go according to plan this time around.
Right off the bat, SuJi is paired with the most unusual student in the class – Myeong JaEun. She shows up in the middle of class, never wears her school uniform, and has visible injuries. Still, SuJi manages to make mutual friends, and as “normal” as it all seems, there’s something sinister lurking in the shadows.

SuJi’s class is called “The Happy Class” because they are the best in the school and never make trouble. However, the student that everyone seems to be afraid of is the one bullied the most. Everything falls into place when SuJi is faced with the “pyramid game”. On the last Thursday of every month, “Happy Class” holds a ranking lottery where students are ranked by grades – A, BC, D, E, and F. Students with the fewest votes receive the grade “F “. The rules dictate that each student must vote for 5 others, but an absent student cannot be voted on.

SuJi notices that JaEun is absent, but an earlier encounter with her in the bathroom suggests that she is fully aware of the fallout. Thanks to her absence, SuJi is convinced that at least she won’t be an F-level student. However, to her surprise, not even her “friends” voted for her, leaving her with 0 votes. Disillusioned, SuJi tries to figure out the ins and outs of the pyramid game and decides to fight the system.

Easier said than done because soon enough, her F-ranked initiation begins and SuJi realizes what it’s like to be helpless at the mercy of others. The only way out is to team up with JaEun and that’s exactly what she does. However, the pyramid game is more complicated than she thought, and breaking out of the F rank is an uphill battle.
