After seven months, MAMAMOO+ is back with the highly anticipated comeback of their first EP “Act 1, Scene 1”. Their tracks feature a sound that many fans are familiar with. However, it still features a good number of twists and turns that highlight the unit. With “Act 1, Scene 1” comes the title track ‘GGBB’, which also stands for “Good Girl Bad Boy”, along with an accompanying music video. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can check out the MV below.
The song is unbelievably catchy, recalling older pop classics. After the EP’s release, fans took to social media to express their love and admiration for MAMAMOO+’s new music. Even we had the constant repetition of the song throughout the day, from early morning to late afternoon.

1. Old Song References

Starting with the track listing, we were struck by what appeared to be a reference to the title track of their older song ‘gogobebe’. Whether it’s intentional or not, it’s a really nice nod to its roots as MAMMOO members. It’s as if Solar and Moonbyul are recognizing the group as a whole and that MAMAMOO+ is simply an extension of their identity as artists. There are also more obvious instances like lyrics referencing ‘Mr. Ambiguous’ in the first verse. Whether official or not, it creates a very deep connection with the fans who have supported MAMAMOO for so long.

Whether as part of the main group, subunit or even solo, MoonByul and Solar always find a way to surprise fans by offering the best viewing and listening experience. After getting used to the pleasant sound of ‘GGBB’, they shift gears into a hype dance break. The transition is natural and smooth, leaving you speechless about its impressive talents. It almost makes you wish there was a complete song made up of the dance break instrumental.

Whether you’re watching the music video or just listening to the song on Spotify, the overall vibe of ‘GGBB’ is catchy. It makes you feel like you’re watching a full musical in just under 4 minutes. The cinematography and overarching theme definitely add to that feeling. With that in mind, MAMAMOO+ could probably make an award-winning musical all on its own.
