Many K-Dramas are actually based on existing webtoons and vice versa. Some K-Dramas are so good that they are later adapted into webtoons. However, webtoons and K-Dramas are very different. Writers for both often try to tell the story in a way that is exciting for their different audiences.
Over time, we noticed some differences between the K-Drama version and the webtoon version of some popular K-Dramas. So we started a series showing the differences between the stories, the characters and even some of the most iconic scenes.
Here is a list of webtoons and K-Dramas that are different from each other. There are articles linked on each that detail what the exact differences are.

Webtoon “Hong CheonGi” / SBS
What the drama is about: It tells the mysterious story of the only female painter of the Joseon Dynasty (played by Kim YooJung) who suffers a terrible fate after entering the palace.

What the drama is about: The drama tells the realistic love story of Yu NaBi (played by Han SoHee) and Park JaeEon (played by Song Kang). Yu NaBi doesn’t trust the idea of love, but she falls for Park JaeEon’s flirtatious nature.

What the drama is about: It tells the realistic story of K-Pop idols in the Korean entertainment industry and features a star-studded cast including Jung JiSo, U-KISS’s Jun, ATEEZ’s YunHo, T-ARA’s JiYeon, and many more.

What the drama is about: It’s about a 999-year-old gumiho (Korean nine-tailed fox played by Jang KiYong) and a college student born in 1999 (played by HyeRi) who end up living together because she swallowed their sacred bead.
Webtoon “Yumi’s Cells” / TVING
What the drama is about: The relatable story of Kim YuMi (played by Kim GoEun) and her everyday life as an office worker. However, her emotions are conveyed to us from the perspective of her head cells.
Webtoon “The King’s Affection” / KBS
What the drama is about: It is the secret court romance drama of a woman who was abandoned because she was born a girl (played by Park EunBin). When her twin brother died, she started pretending to be him: the crown prince while trying to maintain her identity and affection for her first love (played by SF9’s RoWoon).
Webtoon “The Inferno” / Netflix
What the drama is about: The story of a supernatural phenomenon in which people are condemned to hell by the messengers of hell that appear without warning, and the religious organization Saejinrihae, which was revived in this chaos, and those trying to find out the truth about the incident are intertwined. The drama stars Yoo AhIn and Won JinA.
“Drinker City Maidens” Webtoon / TVING
What the drama is about: It is an authentic drama that tells the story of the daily lives of three women who believe that every day is a good day to drink.
The drama stars Apink’s EunJi, Han SunHwa, Lee Sun Binand Super Junior’s Siwon.
Webtoon “Shadow Beauty” / Kakao TV
What the drama is about: Koo AeJin (played by Shim Dal Gi), a bullied high school girl, lives a double life outside the classroom as the beautiful social media star “Genie” (played by fromis_9’s Lee NaGyung). The drama also stars Golden Child’s BoMin and PENTAGON’s HongSeok.
Webtoon “Odd Girl Out” / tvN D
What the drama is about: Through the friendship and growth stories of high school friends, he tells the adorable story of the high school days, when friends were the whole world. It stars Arin from OH MY GIRL, Hwang BoReumByeol, Ryeunand more.
Webtoon “Love & Wish” / Kakao TV
What the drama is about: It’s a youth novel about a girl who dreams of fateful love (played by Choi Ye Bin) and a guy (played by GOT7’s YoungJae) who suffers from trauma stemming from school violence.
Webtoon “We Are All Dead” / Netflix
What the drama is about: Starring Yoon ChanYoung (as Lee ChangSan), Park JiHu (as Nam OnJo), Cho YiHyun (as Choi NamRa), Lomon (as Lee SooHyuk), Jung YiSeo (as Kim HyeonJu), and more, the series and actors are receiving a lot of advertising. It tells the story of those who are isolated in a high school where a zombie virus has spread and those who are trying to save them.
Webtoon “Semantic Error” / WATCHA
What the drama is about: “Semantic Error” tells the story of a campus romance between the adamant SangWoo (played by DONGKIZ’s Park JaeChan) and his encounter with the most popular student on campus, JaeYoung (played by Park SeoHam).
SBS
What the drama is about: The drama tells the story of an ordinary office worker (played by Kim Sejeong ) by disguising himself and going on a blind date with his attractive boss (played by Ahn HyoSeop) in place of her friend to end this unwanted marriage blindly after her request.

What the drama is about: Starring Super Five’s Ok JinWook (who plays HaeBom) and Kang Hui (aka Kang Hee) who plays Jo TaeSung, it tells the story of a friendship between two young men and their search for true love.
